Start Smiling Again with a Smile Makeover
A smile makeover is a term used to define one or more cosmetic procedures that are designed to enhance the appearance of your smile. Treatments can include bonding, dental implants, porcelain veneers, teeth whitening, crowns, and more. A smile makeover is an elective treatment – something that you choose to have done – as opposed to a reconstructive treatment, which is something that you need in order to restore functionality to your mouth. That said, many cosmetic treatments also have functional benefits.
So, what displeases you about your smile? Perhaps you do not like the color of your teeth, or you think they are too small. Maybe your teeth are misaligned or stained. A smile makeover can address a variety of concerns, or just one. If you are unhappy with your smile, Dr. Ross Headley will be happy to talk with you and discuss your options.
Various cosmetic procedures can correct a multitude of problems with the appearance of your smile, including:
Spacing and Alignment – Crooked, gapping or overlapping teeth can be aligned and straightened using porcelain veneers, or in more serious cases, dental braces.Invisalign® clear braces are a highly desirable alternative to traditional metal braces.
Ugly Fillings – In years gone by, amalgam fillings were the standard. The problem is that they are unsightly. Dr. Headley can remove your old metal fillings and replace them with fillings that are tinted to match the natural color of your teeth.
Missing Teeth – Even one missing tooth can make you look prematurely aged. In addition to the cosmetic implications, it can also increase your risk of decay, and adversely affect your bite. Missing teeth can be replaced using implants, dentures, or bridges.
Dull or Discolored Teeth – Whitening treatments can dramatically improve the appearance of your smile. Professional whitening treatments from your dentist are vastly superior to over-the-counter products. In some instances, if the condition of your teeth is such that whitening treatments will not deliver the desired results, crowns or porcelain veneers may be recommended.
A cosmetic dentist can work with you to devise a plan of treatment that will deliver the results that you want from your smile makeover. This could consist of both cosmetic procedures and those that restore functionality as well. Dr. Headley can advise you as to a variety of non-invasive or minimally invasive treatments that will improve the appearance of your smile.
Any cosmetic procedure will, of course, succeed or fail over the long term depending on how well you care for your teeth. For instance, dental crowns can fail if you do not maintain good oral hygiene. The crowns themselves won’t stain or decay, but if you do not brush and floss regularly, and get regular professional cleanings, your gums could become diseased, affecting the underlying tooth structure and causing the crowns to lose adhesion. The same goes for porcelain veneers. Even dental implants can fail in the absence of proper oral care. Whitening treatments will, of course, need to be repeated. The moral of the story here is that cosmetic treatments are not permanent – you have to maintain them.
