Dentures Aftercare

Dentures Aftercare dentures aftercare

Once you have been fitted with dentures, you will be able to once again enjoy whatever you feel like eating, and your smile will be restored. Of course your dentures need aftercare though so that you can enjoy a healthy mouth and also to ensure that they do not become damaged.

Handle Your Dentures with Care

Dentures can break if dropped. When you are handling them, you should make sure that you are standing over a sink full of water, or a folded towel. That way, if you do drop your dentures, there is less risk of damage.

Clean Dentures Daily

Proper dentures aftercare includes brushing and rinsing in order to remove plaque and food particles. Brush using a soft-bristled toothbrush, but do not use toothpaste since it can be abrasive. Be careful not to bend any attachments. Rinse your dentures after eating.

You can also clean your dentures using a mild hand soap or dishwashing liquid. Avoid using anything that contains bleach, as this could cause the pink area of the dentures to whiten. Do not use household cleansers. Of course, the best product for cleaning your dentures is something that is specially formulated for the process. Denture cleaners that have the ADA (American Dental Association) Seal of Acceptance have been evaluated by the ADA and determined to be safe and effective.

Soak Your Dentures

When you are not wearing your dentures, you should keep them moist so that they do not lose their shape or dry out. You can use a denture cleaner for this purpose, or plain water. If the denture has any metal parts, though, they could become tarnished if you use a denture cleaner. Make sure not to use hot water, since that can cause your dentures to warp.

Repairs

If your dentures need to be repaired, come and see us at KC Smile. Do not try to fix your dentures yourself, not even with the DIY denture repair kits you can buy. You will be risking permanent damage to your dentures. We can complete most denture repairs the same day.
