Dental Crowns Aftercare
If you have experienced severe tooth decay or had a traumatic event occur that resulted in your needing a root canal, the final step in the procedure would have been for Dr. Headley to place a dental crown atop the damaged tooth to protect it from further damage. Your dental crown will feel and look just like the rest of your teeth, and you can essentially treat it in the same way. Dental crowns aftercare is really not any more complicated than caring for the teeth that you were born with.
Thanks to modern dental imaging technology, it has become very easy for dentists to design and make dental crowns. Much of the time, you can have dental crowns created and then permanently cemented in place in just a visit or two. Even seriously cracked or otherwise damaged teeth can be restored. Using the CEREC system, your dentist takes a picture of your teeth, looks at the image on the computer, and then manipulates the image in order to design your crown. Then, your permanent restoration can be created.
When you leave the dentist’s office, your tooth will be fully functional. Now, to take care of it, all you have to do is brush and floss as you would normally. Dental crowns will not decay, but you have to make sure that the gum tissue around the crowns stays healthy so that you do not develop gum disease. You will not have to worry about dietary restrictions, but you should avoid biting down hard or grinding your teeth – these behaviors can damage your dental crowns in the same way as they can your natural teeth.
Next to dental implants, dental crowns are the best way of restoring appearance and functionality to your teeth, and dental crowns aftercare is not complicated at all. Brush, floss, and see us for regular checkups and cleanings, and you can expect your crowns to last a long time.
