Dental Bridges Aftercare

With missing teeth, it can be difficult to bite and chew properly. You may also find that you feel awkward in social situations because you do not want to smile and reveal the gaps. If you are missing a single tooth, or even a few in sequence, you might consider having a dental bridge made. For dental bridges, aftercare is important. If you take good care of your bridge, you can count on it to last for a long time.

Dental Bridge Procedure at KC Smile in Overland Park

Dental bridges can restore functionality to your mouth, give you back your smile, and also reduce the appearance of sagging in your face that so often goes hand-in-hand with missing teeth.  To prepare your mouth to receive a dental bridge, your dentist will take impressions of your mouth, and also remove a bit of enamel from the teeth on either side of the gap (these are called the “abutment teeth”) to create an anchor for the bridge. Once your bridge is made, it is cemented in place.

Dental Bridges Aftercare

For dental bridges, aftercare is very similar to what you will have been doing all along with your natural teeth. Essentially, you need to brush and floss regularly and continue to see your dentist for regular checkups and cleanings. Pay special attention to the areas between the bridge and the abutment teeth. Use a soft brush and a fluoride toothpaste. Although, you should avoid abrasive kinds of toothpaste because they could cause the pink parts of your bridge to turn white-ish, and could also dull the surface of the prosthetic teeth.

Proper dental bridges aftercare not only protects your bridgework, it can also reduce the chance of developing tooth decay or gum disease.
