Invisalign FAQs

Invisalign FAQs

Invisalign is a system of clear braces that can straighten your teeth in the same way that metal braces do. Of course we do not expect you to consider any treatment without knowing the facts, so we have assembled this list of Invisalign FAQs that will answer most of your questions. If there is anything you need to know that we do not cover here, simply contact us at KC Smile and we will be happy to tell you more about Invisalign.

What are the Main Benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign clear aligners are barely noticeable. They are also removable, so you can eat what you want, and also brush and floss your teeth normally. There are no wires or brackets that could trap food or irritate your mouth. And since you change your aligners at home on an approved schedule, you will spend less time at the dentist office.

What are Invisalign Aligners Made Of?

The aligners are made of thermoplastic. They do not contain any phthalate plasticizers or Bisphenol-A, so they are completely safe for you to wear in your mouth.

I Am Wearing Metal Braces Now – Can I Switch to Invisalign?

In many instances, yes, you can. Your dentist can evaluate your condition and let you know if you are a candidate for Invisalign.

Will I Be Able to Speak Properly When Wearing the Aligners?

Any time that you have something in your mouth to which you are not accustomed, your speech can be affected. When you first begin wearing Invisalign Clear Braces, you may find that you slur or lisp a bit, but as you get used to the aligners, this will correct itself, usually in a couple of days.

Can I Chew Gum While Wearing Invisalign Clear Braces?

No. Gum will stick to your aligners. If you want to enjoy a piece of gum, simply take the aligners out first.

Is the Treatment Painful?

You may experience a bit of discomfort when you change aligners, but this will go away in a few days, and it will be nowhere near as severe as the tightening treatments you need with metal braces.

How Often Should I Wear My Aligners?

To get the maximum benefit from your Invisalign treatment, you should remove the aligners only to eat, brush and floss. The treatment is most effective if you wear the aligners for at least 20 hours per day.
